1.条件句中的虚拟语气

在书面语中，如果虚拟条件从句中有were, had或should，可以把if省掉，而把上述这几个词置于从句主语之前，构成倒装结构。

If you had come earlier, you would have met him.

→Had you come earlier, you would have met him.

2.在It is (high/about) time that…句型中，从句中的谓语动词一般用“过去式或should+动词原形”来表示虚拟语气的表述形式，但should不能被省略。

3.当条件状语从句表示的行为和主句表示的行为所发生的时间不一致时，在英语中通常称为“错综时间条件句”。其主从句谓语动词的形式则要根据其所表示的时间做出相应的调整以对应其所表示的动作行为。如：If we had started earlier, we would catch the first train.

4.名词性从句中用于表示劝告、要求、命令、坚持、建议、主张、决定等意义的词等构成的两类从句中，从句的谓语动词常用“(should)+动词原形”来表示虚拟语气的表述形式。

She demanded (that) the paper (should) be rewritten.

注：如suggest, insist用于其本意“暗示、表明”、“坚持认为”，且后面从句中的动作已经发生时，使用陈述语气。
